Positive Parenting provides mandatory weekly parenting training workshops for mothers and expectant mothers living at the shelter. Positive Parenting was established in 1991 to assist parents in developing the heightened skills necessary to manage today’s daily challenges that face both parent and child. The sessions address such issues as: effective disciplining, relationship building skills, quality teaching techniques, setting goals for self and child, achieving compliance, and quality modeling skills. Time is allotted for questions that are specific to each mother’s need. Each session incorporates role-playing, handouts and classroom instruction as its learning tools. The sessions also embody humor and a relaxed atmosphere in order to enhance the retention of information.
